Who the budget reachesRule 05

Split campaigns only when one segment clearly outperforms the rest

A segment earns its own campaign by performing two to three times better or worse than the rest.

Campaign Manager has built-in A/B tests for comparing audiences, creative and placements.

What the Standard adds

Retargeting and cold both start broad. A split comes when a gap shows up in the data, not up front.

Why it holds

Every split divides the budget and the creative work. Splitting early gives each campaign too little spend to learn from, so the segments that deserve their own budget never show themselves.

When it matters less

Once a segment stands out, a LinkedIn A/B test is the clean way to confirm it before you split the budget for good.

Decision triggers

Spot it, then act on it.

What experts say

Where people in the field stand on it.

  • I'd add a floor before any split. Each part's ad set has to clear 300 member accounts, and its budget still has to pay for about 5 views a person a month. If it can't, keep it in one ad set.

  • It depends on audience size. Very small audiences rarely justify the split. It's better to exclude the low-performing segments and trim the audience, so the budget moves to the segments that perform better. When the biggest companies take most of the impressions, an impression cap is another option to splitting.
